In your daily life, you probably don’t give much thought to heavy metal toxicity, after all, most people don’t work at industrial plants or live next to a chemical dump. But surprisingly, you don’t need to do either in today’s world, to suffer the effects of heavy metals in your system.
WHAT ARE HEAVY METALS?
They are elements, useful in sufficient quantities in industrial applications, but toxic to the harmony of the human biological systems, often accumulating in our tissues. They can include lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium, copper, zinc, aluminum, and thallium.
Heavy metal toxicity occurs when our ability to clear these heavy metals is no longer sufficient to counteract the effects that they are having on our internal processes and systems.
HOW DO THEY GET INTO YOUR BODY?
We typically breathe them in, absorb them through our skin, and ingest them through our digestive tract. Additionally, heavy metals can also be transferred from mother to baby through breast milk.
Our polluted modern world has significantly contributed to the rise in heavy metal toxicity. Heavy metals are in our air, water, contaminated skin and body products, food (especially seafood), and medical and dentistry aids. Our factory farming methods and other industrial processes that drive the modern world have all contributed to this pollution, along with the occasional industrial-environmental accident. As a result, it is now a surety that we are exposed to heavy metals regularly in our daily lives with corresponding accumulation in our bodies. The delay in the onset of disease resulting from heavy metal toxicity, often makes it hard to understand the cause.
WHY ARE THEY BAD FOR YOU?
Simply put, they are bad for everyone as they cause tissue and organ damage over time. New studies are giving us greater insight into how heavy metals affect our body. However, healthy adults can continue to live and live well without even noticing they have an issue with heavy metals, unless they are tested, but’s really a ticking time bomb.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF HEAVY METAL TOXICITY (HMT)?
In extreme cases, a person with HMT can present with, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, tingling in the hands and feet, shortness of breath, chills, and general weakness.
However, these are the extreme symptoms. There are more subtle symptoms that may not be so disruptive to your daily life but might still have significant impacts if left untreated over time. For instance, heavy metals have been linked to chronic fatigue, autoimmune disease, poor recovery from exercise, skin irritation, neurological disorders, brain fog, difficulty in concentrating, dementia, depression, anxiety, insomnia, impaired hearing, speech and vision problems, digestive issues, chronic aches, and pains.
WHAT SORT OF TESTING IS AVAILABLE?
There are a few types of testing. You can have blood and urine tests to gauge recent exposure levels; and fat, hair and tissue samples to see total accumulated heavy metal burden.
Blood and urine test will give a useful guide as to current levels of exposure to heavy metals.
However, as heavy metals don’t stay in the blood for very long before being excreted in the urine, these don’t give a complete picture of heavy metal toxicity.
To get a complete picture of the heavy metal burden, you need to have fat, hair, or body tissue analyzed for Heavy Metal Toxicity. These tissue tests give a good understanding of accumulated heavy metal exposure and show the Heavy Metal burden that hasn’t been cleared by your body.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
To help your body start to detoxify from heavy metals naturally it is suggested that you eat organically, drink plenty of water, regularly sauna, drink plenty of filtered water, and undergo Chelation Therapy.
Chelation therapies, provided by Miskawaan Health Group, features the removal of toxic heavy metals from the body using chelating agents, such as EDTA to bind with metallic ions to form metallic chelates, which are then removed in the body through urine excretion. It’s recommended that people with chronic heavy metal toxicity or living in a polluted environment undergo chelation therapy every six months.
Those affected by HMT and undergo proper detoxification should see an improved mental performance,
boost energy levels, enhanced immunity and gut health, improved skin health, reduced risk of cognitive and autoimmune disorders, reduced free radicals damage, and reduced risk of other HMT associated illnesses and diseases.
